In the summer of 2018 I broke three ribs and discovered that when I paint, I move my whole body back and forth in big motions to lay down layers of paint, and that just wasn't possible with the pain in my side.
But I have to paint -- I usually spend at least four hours a day at the easel -- so I sat a table and did a few small oils from scenes that inspired me. They are small canvases, most about 10 x 10. Their sizes give the paintings a certain whimsy and sweetness.
